User Account Control (UAC) is a new security
feature in
Windows
Vista
that requires users to log on and run in standard user privileges mode
instead of as administrator with full administrative rights - thus
preventing unauthorized or accidental changes that could destabilize the
computer. However, in many cases, administrator rights are needed by
users to perform certain tasks such as to install or update programs.
Many software applications also need administrator privileges to run
properly, as they are designed to write to system locations during normal
operation. This is the case with MEI Estimating software.
Therefore it is necessary to disable this feature in order for our
software to function properly. To
do this, follow the steps below. There may be some slight variations
depending on how you have your Start Menu viewing options configured. |
Step 1.
Click the Windows Start button, point
to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
Step 2. Click the User Accounts and Family
Safety option.
Step 3. Click the User Accounts option.
You should see a window that contains this.
Step 4. Click Turn User Account Control on
or off to see the following screen.

Step 5. Unclick the Use User Account
Control (UAC) to help protect your computer
option and then click OK.
Step 6. When prompted, restart the computer.
