Windows 7 Security

User Account Control (UAC) is a security feature in Windows 7 that requires users to log on and run in standard user privileges mode instead of as administrator with full administrative rights - thus preventing unauthorized or accidental changes that could destabilize the computer.  UAC also notifies you before changes are made to your computer that require administrator-level permission.  However, in many cases, administrator rights are needed by users to perform certain tasks such as to install or update programs.  This is the case with MEI Estimating software.  Therefore it is necessary to disable this feature in order for our software to install properly.  To do this, follow the steps below.  There may be some slight variations depending on how you have your Start Menu viewing options configured.

Step 1.  Click the Windows Start button and then click Control Panel.

Step 2. Click the User Accounts option. You should see a window that contains this.

Step 3. Click Change User Account Control settings and move the security slider to the bottom as shown below.

Step 4. Then click OK.

Step 5. When prompted, restart the computer.

Step 6.  Install and run MEI Estimation software.  After it is successfully installed and opened for the first time,

you may reset the security setting to its original position.
