Because MEI Estimating
Software uses Excel and its underlying programming language, Excel's
security features apply and should be understood by the user.
Visual Basic Macros are
code modules that allow a developer to create useful programs that can
perform a wide variety of functions. These macros are an integral
part of our software and perform many of the functions necessary to
produce an estimate.
However, macros can also
be used with malicious intent. As a result, Excel has a number of
security features that protect unsuspecting users from dangerous programs.
These features will alert the user to the presence of VB Macros in a file
before the file is opened. This allows the user to choose to
continue opening the file or not depending on the origin of the file being
opened.
MEI software has been
designed to function within the constraints of Excel security, however,
security settings must be such that the VB macros performing many of the
necessary functions are allowed to operate. Otherwise the estimating
process can not be performed. This involves allowing
macros to operate and allowing the estimate file access to the Visual
Basic Project.
Access to these controls
varies depending on the version of Excel that is being used. To see
which version you have, open Excel and select About Microsoft Excel
in the Help menu. If you don't have a Help menu and the
command bars are arranged in Tabs, then you're using Excel 2007.

configure the security settings for your version of Excel.
